Did You Know?

The word “bahama” comes from the Spanish word ‘bajamar” meaning “shallow sea.”

The indigenous peoples of the Bahamas called themselves “Lucayans,” meaning “peaceful people.”

The Bahamas are comprised of approximately 700 islands, of which 40 are populated, and cover an area of 100,000 square miles.

The Bahamian dollar is the national currency. It is equivalent to and interchangeable with the American dollar.
