(June, 2025) G. A. Braun of North Syracuse, NY is celebrating 75 years of TCATA membership this year. G.A. Braun, Inc., a family-owned American company, has been a pioneer in the laundry equipment industry since its inception in 1946. The company's roots trace back to 1902 when a family-operated chemical company relocated from Ohio to Syracuse, New York, a city renowned as the 'Salt City' for its soda ash production essential in soap manufacturing. By 1915, this enterprise evolved into "The Prosperity Co.," focusing on laundry and dry-cleaning machinery.
Braun began in 1946 as a sales office and started manufacturing in 1956 with the launch of its first washer/extractor, the Unit Wash. The company quickly advanced, adding electromechanical controls and automatic chemical injection by the late 1950s.
The 1960s introduced suspension-mounted washers and the Pass-Thru Medicare machine—an industry-first to reduce infection risks by separating clean and soiled zones. Innovations continued with top/side-loading machines that used gravity for efficiency.
Through the 1970s and ’80s, Braun grew via acquisitions, adding finishing equipment and becoming the first to use microprocessors in washers. It later launched WASHNET NT, the first computer-controlled laundry system, and began in-house dryer production.
In the 1990s, Braun led again by developing control software on Microsoft® Windows and introducing the PT dryer series. The 2000s saw space-saving washer/extractors, a Certified Remanufactured Program, and in 2015, a 155,000 sq. ft. facility expansion that fueled the release of 22 new or upgraded products.
Today, Braun remains a leader in smart, innovative laundry solutions—dedicated to reliability, U.S.-based manufacturing, and advancing technology for future generations.
